Following the successful reception of Striving Artists’ first two albums, Christmas with the SAC Pack and Spare Ornaments, and in celebration of the Massachussetts-based company’s 10th anniversary, Artistic Director Greg Luzitano announced in January of 2016 that his next recording project would be the complete score of Jesus Christ Superstar.

Featuring a cast of actors and singers from throughout Massachussetts, New York, and Florida, Striving Artists’ loving tribute to the classic rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice returns to the earthy early-70s style which originally put Jesus Christ Superstar on the map. “I spent a lot of time trying to get some of those great late-sixties guitar tones, cause I wanted the album to sound sort of rough around the edges like the original did,” says Producer and musician Greg Luzitano. “But unlike a couple of previous tributes to the original Jesus Christ Superstar concept album, I wanted to include some of the stuff that was added or changed in later iterations. I think fans of the show will enjoy it.”

Combining the grit of the original “Brown” concept album with the epic scope (and the additional songs) of the film soundtrack, Jesus Christ Superstar: A Striving Artists Cast Recording is a major step forward for Striving Artists as a recording unit, and as a theatrical troupe.
